Frequently Asked Questions

I want to hire veterans. How do I let Mission43 know about job opportunities?

The cornerstone of Mission43 is the employment pillar. Each year, the Hire Heroes USA team helps hundreds of transitioning military, veterans, and military spouses connect to meaningful employment opportunities throughout the state. Each member works directly with their own Idaho-based “Transition Specialist” to help translate their military experience into a relevant resume, practice interview techniques, and ultimately refine their search for positions best suited to their experience.

Idaho businesses have a unique opportunity to post their positions (completely free) so that you can reach the M43 members actively searching for employment. Because you are an Idaho-based business and through Mission43’s partnership with Hire Heroes USA, you will get unlimited 30-day job postings and access to over 9,000 job seekers (including those coming from out-of-state). We need your help in getting your positions posted!

How do I donate to Mission43?

We are often asked and always appreciate people and businesses looking to donate to Mission43’s work. Mission43 is a non-profit, but is fully funded and is an initiative of the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation, so we don’t take in any donations.

However, since some of the organizations supporting the Mission43 pillars are non-profits, we always recommend this as a great alternative. Your dollars will still be able to go towards the work we do and have an impact on military families in Idaho.

Below is our recommendation to donate towards the work that we are doing.

Employment

Hire Heroes USA oversees the employment pillar of Mission43. They have directly supported over 1000 veterans and military spouses transition to meaningful employment throughout Idaho at an average starting salary of over $62,000. The work Hire Heroes USA does is the cornerstone of Mission43.

Your support will help us conduct employment workshops, maintain a free job posting board for Idaho employers (we are the only state to provide this service free through HHUSA), and provide Idaho-based transition specialists who work one-on-one with M43 clients.

I don’t live in Idaho, can I still access services?

Mission43’s services are focused on transitioning out of the military and living in Idaho. If you are out-of-state and are thinking about moving here, then you should absolutely sign-up and work with our team. We want to make Idaho a serious possibility for you because this is a great place for military families after the service!

Yes. In fact, Mission43 services are equally created and provided to Military Spouses. Additionally, our members have very diverse backgrounds, many of which do not include combat deployments or active duty service.

I’m not a veteran, can I join Mission43?

Yes. If you choose to register as a Mission43 member, you can select “Civilian Supporter.” Although our specialized support services, like those provided through our education and employment pillar, are only for military/military spouses, most of our engagement opportunities are inclusive of our civilian members. In fact, it’s extremely important to us because the military community needs to integrate back into the civilian community after the service, not the other way around!

Is Mission43 only for post 9/11 veterans?

No. Although we focus on those who are transitioning from the military back into civilian life, Mission43 will support a veteran or military spouse from any era.

How often is Leaders Fellowship program ran?

A cohort is selected once a year.

Fellows have been selected who currently do not live in Idaho, so we do recommend applying. Consideration will be made for your professional timeline and goals to be in Idaho.

I don’t live in the Boise area. Is there a virtual option?

There is no virtual option to be part of the program. We believe the face-to-face interaction is crucial to the development and strength of the group. However, if you are located outside of the local area Mission43 will cover travel and lodging as part of our investment in your experience.

How much does the Fellowship cost?

The Fellowship, like Mission43, is fully funded by the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation and is free to the military spouses and veterans who are selected. The Fellowship is not a gift, but an investment in creating an experience that reflects the potential of this group.

The dates are listed for each session in the phase descriptions above. We ask that you carefully consider the dates and time requirement to be a M43 Leaders Fellow before applying.

How competitive is the selection process?

It’s highly competitive and the quality of the individuals applying is humbling. However, don’t let this discourage you! We can’t emphasize enough that if you put time and thought into your answers, you will absolutely be competitive. We’ve conducted hundreds of interviews the past few years and you can immediately sense those who are excited about the opportunity and will be great contributors to the larger group.

What is the selection process?

Once you submit your application you will receive a confirmation email to let you know we have received it. During the first week of March a selection committee will review every application to determine who will move on to the second phase for a phone or video interview. Those interviews will be conducted the third week of March. Finally, all applicants will be informed of the selection results no later than March 31.
